CALL TO ORDER

 

Chair Michael Picardi, called the May 9, 2018 regular meeting of the Community and Cultural Affairs Commission to order at 6:01 p.m.

 

 

ROLL CALL

 

Present:  Michael Burke, Barbara Eastman, Michael Picardi, Donna Poyuzina Maine Turner (arrived at 6:05 p.m.).

 

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

Commissioner, Barbara Eastman, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

 

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

 

Action: Burke moved to approve the May 9, 2018 regular meeting agenda, motion seconded by Eastman, motion carried 4/0 by the following vote:

DISCUSSION ITEMS AND STATUS REPORTS:

 

1.

Community and Cultural Affairs Commission and Art in Public Places Budget

 

Public Works Administrative Assistant, Lynne Paul

 

Recommendation:

Receive and File

 

Public Works Administrative Assistant, Lynne Paul, presented the budget to the Commission and responded to questions.

 

 

2.

Desert Hot Springs Library Donation

 

Chair, Michael Picardi

 

Recommendation:

Consider making a recommendation to the City Council for donating up to $12,866.58 to the Desert Hot Springs Library from the Art in Public Places budget.

 

Chair, Michael Picardi, presented the report on a possible Desert Hot Springs Library Donation and responded to questions.

 

 

Desert Hot Springs Library Associate, Morgan Baxter, provided comments on the Library proposal to the Commission.

 

 

A discussion ensued.

 

 

Action: Picardi moved to approve making a recommendation to the City Council for donating up to $12,866.58 to the Desert Hot Springs Library from the Arts in Public Places Fund., motion seconded by , motion carried <forcount>/<againstcount> by the following vote:

 

3.

Utility and Traffic Control Signal Box Program

 

Public Works Administrative Assistant, Lynne Paul

 

Recommendation:

Discuss the process to approve art on Utility  and Traffic Control Signal boxes within the City of Desert Hot Springs.

 

Community Development Director, Daniel Porras, presented the report on the process for approving art on Utility and Traffic Control Signal boxes within the City of Desert Hot Springs and responded to questions.

 

 

A discussion ensued.

 

 

Jorge Sicre provided comments on his interest on painting wall murals.

 

 

Yudit Ecsidy provided comments on her interest in continuing to paint artwork on utility boxes in the City.  There are funds remaining that were put aside for Ms. Ecsidy to paint one more utility box.  It was suggested that she work with staff to finish this project.

 

 

Russell Betts provided comments on the Art in Public Places Fund.

 

 

Staff asked that if Commissioners have any edits to the Utility Box and Traffic Signal Program that they provide them to Lynne Paul no later than May 29, 2018.

Update and discussion.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR REPORT

 

Public Works Administrative Assistant, Lynne Paul reminded the Commission that their Agenda Submittals and Utility Box Program edits for the June 13, 2018 meeting are due on May 29, 2018.  She also reminded them that all event fliers need to be approved by the City Manager's office.
